Moths – They’re More Interesting Than You Might Think
by Rick Ahrens
7:15-9:00 p.m., presentation 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Main Hall, Hilyard Community Center, 2580 Hilyard St, Eugene (map)

Moths are everywhere, but rarely seen or appreciated. As caterpillars they feed on a vast array of plants and provide food for birds, reptiles and other animals. Some cause problems, but most are beneficial. We will look at examples of the vast array of 160,000 species – from micro-moths to the large, rare, showy species. We will also explore how important darkness is for moths, and most other animal species, including our own.
For the past 40 years, Rick Ahrens has served as a nature guide and nature guide trainer for the Mt. Pisgah Arboretum, Nearby Nature, WREN, and other local groups. He has been a butterfly counter for over two decades and an officer for 13 years with our local NABA Chapter. He gives frequent presentations on nature topics throughout our local area.
